As we all know by now I spent last weekend February 17th & 18th in London for London Fashion Week with Fashions Finest. I had a very early start beginning at 2am as I flew to London for the events and arrived at The De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms where the fashion shows were being held.
In hindsight I should have flown in the night before and flown home on the Monday but everything is a learning curve and you have to learn from your mistakes. I was contacted by Fashions Finest in Hanuary 2018 and asked would I be interested in exhibiting one design. I jumped at the chance mainly because it was a chance to dip my toe in the water and see what it was like to experience London Fashion Week.
flourish
The design I chose to exhibit was called Flourish and I made it specifically for London Fashion Week. I did lots of networking and spoke to various stylists, designers, photographers and members of the public, all of which were very encouraging.
I had a very positive response to my work. Most said they thought my designs were sculpture pieces or wearable art which isn’t something I would have described my work as previously, but given my Fine Art Sculpture background the combination of Art and Fashion makes sense.
As it was Fashion Week I really wanted to dress to impress so of course that meant several shopping trips. I combined items I already had in my wardrobe with new items. I made custom Saraden Designs to match each of my outfits and my Mum made my jewellery to compliment my wardrobe choices and incorporated the colours of my millinery designs into the jewellery.
I wanted to wear some of pieces to show that I can make custom pieces to match particular styles and colours . I also wanted to show my millinery skills and have two very different piece on each day. Both designs were made using my Saraden Fabric with the first piece incorporating feathers into the design and the second using mixed media of wire and beading.
