I entered the Navan Racecourse Virtual Summer Ladies Day on June 6th 2020. The event was in aid of Meath Women’s Refuge and the judges on the day were the fabulous Funk Fashion Frolics.
My millinery piece is a custom made design. I chose my dress first and then designed my hat around it. I picked black and gold as my fabric colours and began production. There are 6 pieces which have been made and then sculpted into shape. They have been hand sewn together and then hand sewn to the base.
I embellished the design with 4 different sized ball beads. The largest of which can take up to 3 hours to completely cover
MY mum Margaret joined me for the Navan Race Course Virtual Summer Ladies Day.
She chose this beautiful dress from a local boutique. She had previously bought it to wear to my Belfast Fashion Week Show and this was its second outing.
The dress itself has such strong patterns I didn’t want to make anything too big or overpowering. I made a simple birdcage style hat in red Saraden Fabric. It half covered one side of her face and matched the dress beautifully. I embellished the design with turquoise glass beads on the connecting points. I then beaded a large ball again in turquoise beads and sewed that to the center of the design.
